How do you get your fish.

if its not an everyday fish how do you get them? every time I ask the LFS to get me a fish they tell me I have to buy 30 of them once they said 300 . I understand minimum orders, but if you get all your fish from the same distributor shouldn't the minimum order be by price and not type of fish?

For example lets say they normally get 40 fish a week obviously they are meeting there min so whats the big deal of one extra fish?

I guess I'll have to order online, very sad to have to do that. pay $35 dollars shipping for a 5 dollar fish

most $5 fish are pretty common unless you have a cheep LFS. Also most LFS have a distributor that they work with that sells to other fish/pet stores. they shouldn't need to order bulk to get you want you want. Have you tried paying up front for what you want. So that way they know you're for real and are not going to stick them with a fish they can't sell?

That's kinda weird that your lfs won't do special orders. They have never told me they have to order a minimum of whatever. I ordered one of my oscars from there. And that was just one fish.

usually i end up having to pay a little more for online dealers, as most local stores I go to tend never getting around to getting in fish I ask for, especially if it is a common fish to find but isn't carried by stores generally

If you like cichlids which is your case or unusual exotic fish IMO Miami is horrible.

Even the non chain pet store's in Bird Road,etc it seem's it's all the same fish.

I used to go to a few pet store's in Long Island NY that carried wall's full of cichlid's from all over the world not the common yellow lab's and zebra's .
That's one thing I found surprising about Miami the lack of fish selection other than general common fish.

Yes but like you told me while back there selection isn't the best as far as tank fish good for ponds but not best color for tanks.

Even their selection is tiny compared to what I was used to. I started getting into cichlid's here and realize how tiny the selection is.

There is a fish club in Hollywood might be worth looking into for African cichlid breeder's .

Look around find another pet store . you may wind up ordering online.
I boycott the local chain pet store's and will drive 40 minutes out of my way lol.

When I first moved here was looking for common 30 gallon 36 inch long tank. They wouldn't order it only had 30 inch 29 high tank and that was it.
Refused to order one even with deposit .

Due to that I boycott them and drive 40 minutes when need something to lfs which carried 30 gal long's .
I even sent Petco and Petland email's telling them of my boycott due to lack of tank selection lol.
I doubt they care .

I got used to NY where anything you want fish -tank size,etc you find easy enough just assumed all of USA was same way lol.
