I remember someone saying that his RTC is 28 1/2 inches or something. What the hell? How do you get it that exact to 1/2"? Whenever I tell people how big my fish is, I'm like "uh...like 4-6 inches?" Do you guys take your fish out of the water to measure or something? I dont understand how you get such good measurements :nilly:

u can just catch em in the tank with some mes. tape up to the glass, or takem em out

use your brain to estimate. you really cant judge the length of a fish in a tank???

When measuring fish, measure from tip of mouth to base of tail....Base of tail is where the body and tail fin meet...Never include the actual measurment of the tail fin....

I can estimate a small fish like 6" or something but when you're looking at a 24+ fish and can get a measurement like 28 1/2" where half an inch isnt as noticeable, that's where I'm wondering how you got that

i use a ruler on the side of the tank, and use my hand/or finger to get the fish to near the ruler and presto.or just measure your hand and place ur hand next to the glass{not on the glass cuz i hate finger prints}and u got a moblie ruler.

What I use is a catfish skinner. It is like a long cutting board with a spring loaded clamp on one end. Just stick their head under the clamp and measure away. If they flop around too much, I just snap the clamp on their heads a few times. Calms 'em down right away...

Ok, so I made that up... What I do is when they are near the glass I put a finger at their tail and then head. I usually have a ruler by the tanks. To get good measurements, when a fish puts its nose against a side, I'll mark the point where the tail is and then take a measurement.

Oh, one other thing. When using your finger to mark a point, use a point on the outside of your finger. My fingers are right at 3/4" wide and using the center of my finger enters way too much error.

You must develop the "skillz" Just eyeball it ! You can use you hand or something as a reference, I feel it's fairly accurate, but you have a funny point!
