I was just wondering, how do you heat really large tanks? Like the ones at a Public Aquarium?

Im thinking they use solar or geo-thermal heating, as butane or electric heating would be very cost prohibitive.

what do you think?

Can't beleive i never thought of that.

Doing some calculations, i see that a million gallon tank would use about 2000 lbs of propane/hour, assuming it needed to heat the tank 5*F above room temperature.

If you can afford the tank, the heating and water changes are not going to bother you.

I will have to ask Matt at Underwater Adventures how they heat their tanks. If you laid down an oil slick and set it on fire, that might do it.
