I see some people keeping fish that are way to big for the normal fish keeper. Fish like RTC, Goonch cats, Arapaima, Gars, Sturgeon, or a nurse shark. Don't these monters need a swimming pool size tank. How many people have the right set up to keep these monsters as adults Or do these fish get sent off to Zoos once they get too big?

I don't have the right setup for a nurse shark. But, I do have tanks that can house RTCs, Bagarius sp. (other than yarelli), most gars, and several species of sturgeon. You picked kind of an ambiguous array of species to try to make a point.

What is your set up?

I'm not saying no one have the set up for these fish. I guess what it comes down to is I see rtc being sold at stores to people with a 55 gal tank. I'm not trying to make a point I just want to know how many people can keep these mosters long term.

I own a 125 tank hatchery. My current largest tank running is 650. I have nearly 3 dozen 450s. A couple of larger tanks are inop at this time and standing by for when my flathead catfish grows into them. He's only at the 2ft mark but, he's special because I had him since he was an egg.

How many of those monster made it to adulthood in this hobby? There are several options once fish get too big for someone's tank - selling it to or looking for someone with a larger tank/pond, sending it to LFS with a giant display tank, or cook out!

I have a 8'x3'x2' for my large cats..bu this is just the beginner pond for them, they will be getting a 10'x5'x4' in the very near future.
