My FH is now around 8 inches. He is very muscular and has long trailing fins. Kinda Fat looking for an 8 Inch FH.So how do I know if he is done growing or not. I was hoping he would touch the 12 inch mark in a few months.I got him at 7 inches, the LFS was guessing he was 8 months old, but not sure. These 2 pics taken on the day I got him, 7 inches.

At least for mine he grew fast then slowed down allot. Mine is about 11 inches now. Just be patient. Fish dont grow to full size in a year or two it takes them a while.

Many of the species used in the creation of FH take approximately 2-3 years to fully mature, I suspect synspila could take even longer. Many times hybrids can take even longer to reach full size, some just seem to grow so slowly.

So your saying if I have a tetra for 10 years it will get larger?? False. Its genetics on how large a fish grows.

^This. Your fish's growth is only limited by its environment and lifespan.

True but not true. Fish DO never stop growing but as they age it's slows to a crawl. Basically negligible growth. But still growth. Genetics determine growth as comparing to the rest of the species and genetically some will grow bigger than others but given proper care and space fish never quite growing until they start to deteriorate and die. You just may not be able to tell with the naked eye especially seeing them on a frequent basis.

When it dies. :grinyes:

Fish grow all throughout their life. Unlike people gravity does not act against them as much as us. They are limited to their environment however they will slow dramatically according to their enviornment
