As the title states, how do you know when you've finally killed off internal parasites in a puffer?

I ask this coz when i first got my puffer i de-wormed her and thought it was done, since after a few extra days of treatment, no more worms being pooped out...

Then last week i noticed she was pooping some worms again arrrggghhh... So started treatment again... Just this morning she pooped out a long white stringy parasite about 8" long...

So my question is, is there any way to tell when your puffer has passed all the parasites out of its system?

Normally people say 2 weeks so i did my first run 2.5 weeks on my fahaka just to be safe when she was around 1.5" - 2"... Now shes at 13" and dealing with ips again? Or maybe i didnt clear it out her system properly the first time?

meds i have say feed this stuff for 3 days straight and only this stuff (no food) then 4 days of food then 3 days of meds. do this for 4 weeks

Yeah, just going to see what happens... this morning work up and didn't notice any worms in the tank, so will keep treating her for another week or so and see if theres any more worms coming out of her system...

Okay relating to parasites... Does any one know if parasites have a main body so to speak?

Coz yesterday noticed a really fat part of parasite on the substrate and wondering if it could be the "head" of the parasite so to speak?

Sorry forgot to take pics before flushing it coz i was rushing to work...

possibly.. not sure iof this applies ot fish.. but haveing kept horses for many years.. most IPs have a life cycle just like the Ick parasite. I've been battleing IPs with my puffer as well since we got her last year. I've been treating for the reccomended 3 days... every month. I "Think" I have her finally cleaned up. ime wormers don't work instantly.. you are exposing the worms to the meds.. and it will take a few days to weeks for them to actually die, and it's unlikely to get them all in a highly infected animal. off fact but relivant in part.. I've had horses colic on me from mass IP die off 14 days after being wormed, so the effects aren't seen immediately like in treating bacterial or fungal infections.

I haven't had any negative side effects from worming her monthly. You may also try useing a different wormer. I've been useing prazi-pro.. but after the last round I gave in Dec.. if she still shows worms again I'm going to look into trying something else.

Thanks a lot for this thread, LOL. I read it last night and dreamt of disgusting worms being passed by all my fish.
Diatomaceous Earth put in feed kills parasites in the digestive tract of animals (horses) without chemicals, and can be used continuously. I'm not sure if it can be used on fish, but might be worth researching.
