Something didn't feel right and I decided to test my tap water - it used to be pH6.5 but now higher than pH8.0!

Tanks are at pH7.5. I do weekly 50% WC so something must have happened recently to my tap water.

I'm not set up to test KH or GH.

Planning to visit my LFS tomorrow, to see if they have anything useful. Any suggestions? Any experience with lowering pH with chemicals?

Things that can lower pH
are :
driftwood
Some plants like peat moss ( only if you have a peat filter)

But what i use is called Discus Buffer by Seachem
it works pretty good

And there is no need to lower the pH if your fish are doing all right. Check your KH. pH is not an issue.

I have to keep my PH low for my red crystal shrimp or else they will die. I use aquasoil I bought online from Dr. foster and smith works great!

Thanks guys! I do have some dw in the tank but guess they are too slow...

Thanks Lupin. Maybe they are alright but they look irritated to me...fins closed...wiggling motion...bad temper...

Perhaps the best indication is that some of my fish stopped spawning two weeks ago - they used to spawn every week like clockwork...

I was actually looking at something called "Seachem Acid Buffer" - good to know if works for you!
