How do you plant your tank?

Not sure if this belonged here, but I'm doing it in the setup stage, so here it is...
How do you plant your plants?
Meaning: I've got sand on top of potting soil substrate, how do you physically place the plants in there to get them secured will so they can root, without stirring everything up?
By hand? Long tweezers/tongs? Something else?

I've got some dwarf hair grass to start with, then go from there... And I know thde dwarf hair grass I'll separate out, so I'll be attempting to plant really small pieces/clumps. Just trying to figure out how to do it neatly...

I do it by hand and for the first few days/weeks weigh it down.

Hair grass is a pain. Plan on having to replant pieces of it for awhile. You can get pruning kits for aquariums. They have long tweezers that will help you plant it. It's out of stock, but this is what I have and it helps a lot.

I'll have to see what I can find around here, got some long plastic tong/pruner thing I got from the local Petco, but it doesn't seem suited for any fine work...
I know I've seen some longer tweezers/tongs around here somewhere, I'll just have to hunt them down... Probably at a CVS or local drugstore perhaps...
