I'm starting up a 70g medium-heavily planted tank, I currently have got 3 plants in the past 3 days, Not sure which species. The tank is 60x18x18 and 5 foot long, What I'm asking is how do YOU plant your plants? It's such a PAIN to plant just 2 plants. It takes me like 15-20 minutes just to plant 1. I have to hold it down with a long stick then I have to get a very large cooking spoon then whilst holding down the plant, Cover it with gravel. There obviously is an easier way than this? Can you help me? I have seen large (Very large) Planted 200g tanks, No way has the person had to spend 20 minutes just to hold down 1 plant. Anyone?

i would assume it is easier to do without any water in the tank

I hold the plant in my hand/wrist and the roots clamped between my thumb and pointer/middle finger. Hold my hand at an angle I use either my thumb or fingers to make a hole by dragging my finger/thumb (at an angle) into the gravel/sand deeper then what the roots require. Release your thumb and sweep what little gravel/sand is required back into the trench/hold you just made to secure your plant, remove your other fingers from the plant and sweep the gravel/sand to how you want it to look. Now gently grab the stems of the plant and pull the roots up to the proper height.

Takes about 30 seconds if your in a hurry.

Thanks, But, this tank is 5 foot long and over a foot deep (18 inches) I couldn't possibly hold the plant down, I would need something long to hold it down, I wouldn't be able to reach the gravel.

^ Nice! I do the same but I just shove the plants in. I do no sweeping. Well maybe a little sweeping if I feel it needs a mound to hold the plant down until it roots itself. Really should only take 30 seconds or so. Hardest/longest part is figuring out where you want to place em.

Super easy fix, stand on a step stool if you can't reach. I do it all the time with tanks on high stands/racks.
