I have a 29 gallon and 2 10 gallons, and I hear the filter sounds. It doesn't bug me much, but I'd prefer if it didn't make noise. But I know that there are people here who have big tanks, and therefore huge filters. How do you guys put up with that sound?

well i have a fluval fx5<its big<and its silent<you only hear the water moving unless you put outlet under water,,,also have two 1200 tetratec internals<also silent>what is yours?

i dont hear mine anymore....

If your water is to low it will make noise. Keep your tank full and it should be quiet.

its not the filter, its my spray bar above water.... when it hits the surface t makes a racket, even through glass lid and wooden hood it gets to me, i sleep next to the tank, its like Chinese water toucher... but i some how get over it.... im no sure how itjust goes away after a while....

I believe mine is an Emperor 400.

Anybody know any real quiet filters for a 10 gallon? Preferabbly sponge filters?

put a sponge filter on a powerhead. If you get a nice one you wont hear it at all. An Ehiem aquaball filter would work very well.

Oh, thanks for the suggestion. But I think that powerheads make too much current for a 10g, especially for guppies (I have one, but I can't find another sponge filter). Would it work if I put a sponge from a sponge filter onto a regular power filter work?

My powerhead sponge filter tends to make a bit noise...maybe it is just the brand?

I have AC 70's on my tens and when the tank is full, silence...
