Hey Guys,

I ask this question because after the entire population of marine fish I had died of ick, I realized it could have been solved if I quarantined the new specimens. Well my title say's it all.

I have a 20 gallon long tank with a heater, marine light glo, an aqua clear 30 and an aqua clear 20. I figured since it is a quarantine more filtration...lol Inside their is live sand, with a few pieces of live rock and some pvc for hiding.

In this thread I hope you answer the following:

How do you accumulate your fish to the quarantine and how long?

(I think I would do , the drip and fill the container double of the original water the fish came in and then dump have. Then I repeat it one more time and then I dump it in the quarantine.)

What meds do you use? (Have No Clue)

How long do you you leave the fish in the quarantine?

How do you accumulate it to the main tank? (I guess the drip again)

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

as to how long, I'm not sure. but the way I acclimated my marine fish to a different tank is to put them in a tub of water from thier old tank (or from the bag they came in in your case). Make sure the tub is not full, as you're going to add more water soon. place this next to your quarentine tank and run a small piece of airline (airstone) tubing from the quarentine tank into the tub. tie a loose knot in the tube and get a syphon going (lighten or looosen the knot in the tube so that there's only a slow trickle of water flowing from the quarentine tank into the tub. let this go for awhile (DON"T LEAVE IT UNSUPERVISED or you might end up with a wet floor and a quarentine tank that's low on water) until the tub is almost full. stop the syphone and remove about half the water in the tub (be careful not to scoop out your fish). then start up the syphone again and repeat about 3-4 times. then you can dump the tub and the fish into the quarentine tank. after the quarentine period is up, repeat this process for moving the fish from the quarentine tank into the main tank.

What this process does is slowly dilute the water the fish is used to, with the water from its new tank, until the water in the tub is almost completely that from the new tank.

it sounds confusing, but it works if it's done properly.
hope this helps.

Ooooooo. Not my thing, dude. It's been quite awhile since I had any marine fish, so I'm alittle rusty on the chemicals and medications.

Sorry.

Not if it's not sick and if you find out it is I would return it and get a healthy one... unless of course you bought it online, in which case you have problems.
