im just wondering how others deal with fry. do you remove them from the parents? do you let them stay? what about a tank with other tank mates? if you leave them at what size do you remove them from the parents? do you keep the fry or sell them, or give them away?

right now im letting the parents take care of the babies and they have been doing so for about a week in my community tank. they are doing a good job keep other fish away

It depends on the type of fish. When my angelfish breed, I leave the fry with their parents, but when my corys breed, I take the eggs out, and raise them in a different tank. When my halfbeaks breed, I take out the breeding net and put the fry in there because they're too small for the fry tank. However, when my danios breed, I leave the fry in the tank and hope they don't die(they're too small to fit in the net) I try to sell my fish, but I haven't had any buyers lately, so I've been giving them away for free.

If I want to keep/raise the fry…

I pull the fry the first day they are free swimming… put them in a 10 gal tank… pump them full of live hatched bbs… cull 50% when the 10 gal seems crowded… transfer to 29 gal when tank seems crowded… quickly start looking for new homes and realizing that I shouldn’t keep so many of the fry…

Most of the time…

Remove 25~300 at a time with a siphon hose or Turkey Baster and feel them to other fish…

I remove the fry after about a week with the parents. I move them to a 10 gal. tank and feed fry food, frozen brine shrimp and finely crushed NLS flakes.

I change about 50% of the water each day. The fish grow very quickly. I then sell/trade the fish to LFS at 1 - 1.5 inches.
