Hey fellas, haven't been on this forum in a long time. I'm back into the fish-keeping hobby and i need your help. I have XP3, XP2, XP2 on a 125G tank with a few sa cichlids. My problem is keeping the debri off the ground. I'm looking more closely at a diy for directing debri to the intakes of the filters. There are lots of decorations/slate/rockwork in the aquarium so water changes every other day is time consuming. I dont mind doing the water changes, its just removing all the rockwork to get underneath will be painful. If anyone has great advice on helping me direct debris towards the intakes of my canister filters, it would be greatly appreciated.

An alternative would be having plants underneath the stand, and running the water to the plants, then pumping the water back into the tank. Main goal is removing nitrates. problem is I don't have much room underneath the stand, so a small procedure that maximizes nitrate consumption would be beneficial!

How about using a powerhead to direct flow towards your intake?? Especially places where you have those rockworks. Good waterflow and no 'deadspots' prevents such buildup of crap. That's how mine's working, just have several powerheads pushing things to one corner, and having the intake there. Good luck!

Thats what my first intention was. Wouldn't it pick up the sand as well?

same principle as in a marine tank...you just have to play with how high you put it in the tank, so its not pulling up the sandbed....

Yeaup. I second this. hehe. Once it's all set in at proper height, sand won't be blown around as you might think it will. Good luck!

Is a denitrator really worth the time and effort spent on getting it to properly work? Does it yeild 0 nitrates after 6months like people claim?
