Hello

I was just wondering how people store their fish foods, I´m thinking the freeze dried stuff and pellets/flakes. Ideally i should be stored in a Dark,Cool and Dry place, so the nutrition in the food stays as fresh as possible.

I live on the top floor in a 4 story building, so in general all my storage spaces are warm.
We have a small closed balkony were i keep my fish food in the winter month`s, but in the summer time its like a oven.
I`ve been thinking about clearing out a shelf in the fridge, and storing it there. Anyone do this or have any advice for/against it ?
My big concern would be moisture getting into the bags/containers

Anyways, how do you store your foods and why ?

Cheers

How big are these food packages you buy? For large packages, divide the foods in small portions enough to last you a month. Constant reopening can degrade the foods' vitamins and nutrients from constant exposure to air and light. That's one thing to consider. Keep all bags vacuum sealed by removing air out of the packages as you reseal them.

I don't see why you cannot store the fishfoods in the fridge. Refrigerating usually lasts them a little longer. It's why you keep perishable frozen stuff such as bloodworms and even gel foods there otherwise they degrade very quickly in warm conditions.

Well i usually buy foods when i need it, i dont usually keep a large stock. But my mother spent a month in the US and came back with alot hikari bags (13oz bags), and i want to store them the best possible way. The fridge should work for them, since they are still sealed. But open bags, i would worry about moisture getting in to the bags.
But in general, whats the best way/place to store the opened bags/containers of food you are feeding your fish currently ? It can`t be the cabinet below the tank were most people keep it ;)

For foods that come in kilo of 5 lbs lots I divide them up into snack size ziplock bags,4 of them fit in a sandwich size bag or mason jar then I store them in the freezer.kensfish sells food in 1/2 lb bags so extra goes right in the freezer.

Refrigerate them if your cupboards go warm, Drunken.

Just transfer an amount that you can use in a couple weeks to a small tupperware container so you can leave the main container closed. Store them both in your aquarium stand. I don't think it's necessary to store it in the fridge, but if you do, make sure it's in an airtight container with as little air space as possible at the top. A zip-loc freezer bag would work.

I usually keep most of my foods down in the cabinet under the tank.
