Does anyone have tips, tricks, or experience with taming Timor Monitors? My Timor, like most, is skittish and won't even let me touch him but I want him to trust me enough to use tongs and to handle him to clean the tank or any other occasion handling is necessary.

How long have you had the Timor? It's all about trust and it will take some time before your monitor will become accustomed to you. This species isn't well known for being laid back so it's going to take a while. Don't expect changes over night!

Rule number one. Leave it alone. Rule number two. Leave it alone. Rule number three. Feed it. That's about it. If you try to force it to like you, it will only make it worse. Better to let it associate you with food then let it come to you on its own. As far as cleaning, I'd recommend you just set up a bioactive enclosure and let all the little bacteria do the work for you. No healthy Timor will consent to being yanked out every time it takes a dump.

Yep, like the guys said,

I would work on building trust with your monitor first, without handling or grabbing it. No monitor really likes be handled.

Try feeding it using long tongs at first, eventually getting it closer and closer to you with food.
Let it know that you aren't a threat, but someone they will look foward to seeing.
It will associate you with getting fed, all the while gaining trust. It will take time and patience but can be done.

Actually, if your cage is set up correctly, that is, multiple hide options throughout the cage, you should be able to do 90% of your maintenance with the lizard in the cage.

It's working, he's getting more comfortable with me. He went from bolt at first sight of me to, only accepting food if it was placed infront of him and I wasn't in the room to now readily accepting food from the tongs!
