I am temporarily housing a 5 inch jack Dempsey with a 4 inch flowerhorn and I think they may be forming a pair. The flowerhorn is always by the Dempsey's side, follows 'him'(I don't know either's gender) around and is completely unaggressive with him. The two of them have taken a liking to an overturned flower pot and stay in there together all day. He is always at the Dempsey's side. The flowerhorn violently chases away the silver dollars that even thought about going in the general direction of the jack Dempsey. I had to remove them. The Dempsey doesn't seem to mind but doesn't go out of his way to be with the flowerhorn and is just sort of chill but allows the flowerhorn to rest at his side in the flowerpot, sometimes they are touching even though there is room for them to be further apart. Now, I am a newbie when it comes to cichlid behavior so I don't really know what I'm talking about LOL Aren't they too small to be thinking about breeding? What do you think about this? I wasn't trying for a pair, I was just housing the jack Dempsey there to heal from some injuries my green texas caused.
