Hi.. well my black nasty doesn't eat that much.. its only about 1.5"-2" in size and seems to be a picky eater. I have been trying to feed the veggie flakes.. and other flakes.. I give a little blood worms( treat) but even them , it doesn't seem to want to go at it. Today I noticed that its belly looks to be a little bigger than normal.. so I'm not sure if this is bloat or not.

Can someone tell me how to know if its bloat or not ? Or what the signs of bloat are ?

when mine bloated the first sign was that they werent interested in any food, they usually attacked it and then they just stopped eating.

they start off as herbivores, next time try solely veggie based foods. and they like high temps

Sorry to hear about that, was it alone, or in a community tank.
I have found that when young, "not" overfeeding, temps in the high 80s, they do well, if raised either in a separate tank, or with egg crate division that separates them from other fish, and/or their siblings, gives them a better chance at survival.
I raised this one without a problem to about 3", then put it in a cichlid community, and it was dead of bloat in 24 hours.

Please let us know everything you did with it, kept with it, even all maintenance procedures. We would like as much information as you can share, we may learn abit more about avoiding bloat.

I do about a 25% or more water change once a week. It was in a tank of its own. I had learned to only feed every 2-3 days. I was feeding frozen veggie and veggie flakes. Not sure how it got bloat.. but did notice its belly seemed to be bigger than normal.. as if it just got done eating really really well and then it would just stay at either the top of the tank or the very bottom. I stopped feeding 3 days before it died.
