I want a flower horn but i have no idea how to tell the difference! how do you tell the young apart from a "kamfa" to just a normal flowerhorn"?
I see, but how would you tell that with fry? I see people get them from petsmart from picking it out.. But I look at the ones at my store and they look nothing like what people post here when's they are young...Hello to a fellow New Jersey MFK member. A Kamfa is a type of flower horn usually defined by white or light green/blue tinted eyes. They also have more compact fins that make their over all body shape look almost like a square box. I have been keeping FHs for a long time. There are so many different strains and types of FH. From Zhen Zhou, Red Dradon, King Kamfa, Kamfamalua, and the list goes on and on. When I'm looking for a FH i look for two main factors. 1st is that it has amazing color and second is that it responds to my presence and is VERY interactive with me. A Flower Horn should act like an underwater dog.
People who get really nice FH fry from Petsmart are usually on the West Coast where the quality of FH is much higher and more available. You need to start with a high quality FH if you are looking to have a really nice fish. Picking a High Quality Fry is almost impossible until they reach the 2.5--3.0 inch range. Private Breeders are the best place to get a high quality FH in NJ without paying $200.00-1000.00. I do know of one retail store that sometimes has really nice FH for around $100.00.
Those cost a lot of money and I think you need license to keep them.. Mike Tyson got a tiger
But you can buy FH fry from Aquacraze.com. It''s like a online FH shop.
I know a guy who you can get a very high quality red dragon fry from for around $10.00. If you are interested PM me and we can try to make arrangements for you to pick one up.
