How do you vent a small cichlid

So I just bought a new juvenile blood parrot about 1.5 inches long, it doesn't have any colour yet and I still green/black with bars, how do I safely vent a cichlid this small and delicate, I've only ever vented parrots 6+ inches.

I believe they have to at at least 4" to vent them properly.
