How does he look

The question is a bit cryptic to me.

He looks overall more or less average. A bit, or noticeably, thin - the body is thin w.r.t. the head and some bones are visible, especially on the cranial shield - the spots that should be filled with more muscle mass. This may explain why he is still on the small side... unless you started with a ~0.5"-er 6 months ago.

The dorsal fin and maybe others are a bit tattered - something bullies him a little, not too viciously, which again goes along with the thinness and the possible slower-than-average growth.

I'd not say this is terrible or wrong but since (I think) you are asking for something more than comments on the exterior coloration etc...

He is in with an Oscar and they don't really bother each other. He is on the skinny side and all due to how big he eventually will get. Feeding him every other day with a varied diet to make sure that he does stay healthy. He did start off at about the .5" and was in with a Lima Shovelnose and Floridian gar when I first got him. Now he is just in with the Oscar. The gar is in another tank. I am thinking he needs to move to my other tank to make him happier!! Thoughts?

I think the Oscar ripped his dorsal.

Never seen them for sale so small (always at least 1.5"-2") but then the growth is not bad at all to 6" in 3 months. He looks ok.

What would be the pros and cons for moving him? I can't have any thoughts not knowing the tank mates, the tank sizes, water parameters, etc.

Should be feeding him properly, as much as he can eat so he grows up nice and healthy, If you are worried about "how big he will actually get" then you chose the wrong fish. Don't try and stunt such a cool fish.
