How does one post a pix in their profile?

Settings - Edit avatar - Click on 'Upload image from your computer'

Then do the exact same with Edit profile picture.

how do you upload it to the thread i am trying to post pics of my new apistos and a box just shows up with a question mark on it? i took the photos with my moms iphone sent it to my mac and copied pasted the photos from my email onto the thread and i get the small box with a question mark?
