Here you go. I dont use drain pipes at all. I have a spray bar/ring in the lid then floss on top of the drip plate. Then media under and the drain back to tank.

Nice.

I’m unclear, all your bio media is completely submerged. I thought some of it is supposed to be above the water, exposed to air.

Looks like you got some aquaponics going there too.

Do you think 2377 GPH pump is too much for 100 Gallon. I will switch to 300 Gallon in near future, would like to
reuse same pump. These DC Pumps have lowest setting but don’t go very low. Next model down is 1320GPH.

More stacked bins, should be higher flow pump?

What size drain will be more of what you need to worry about. Will the drains handle that much flow? How about fish....can they handle it? A dc pump is deffinately a good way to go as its adjustable.

I guess I will try the 1320 GPH. I will have 3x 1 1/2” drains. Intake is 1” hose to 1” PVC as spray bar.
I’m using 2 bins 12Gallon size with about 5” high of bio rocks, 1.5” Japanese mat, fine/course foam.
That is the plan.

Thanks. It quarantine tank for koi 5” size. I think they prefer higher flow.

The rate of the flow matters for the trickle filter? The goal is to have water trickle through but not
fully submerge the media on the last bin that has drains. Too much flow, the media will be continuously submerged.
I never built one before, just guessing here.
