Hey Everyone finally getting the stand and canopy tomorrow hopefully from a member from another forum and hopefully the tank soon.
Also I'm reporting this because I had it in the DIY but there really isn't anything being made so I figure I could get more info. I already have some info from a couple members here and I have added it to my notes for the tank so any more input would be appreciated.

Short story, I love sumps way less complicated the canister filter hands down....IMO. Ok so I want to overkill with filtration just because I feel better in the long run however I don't want to dish out tons of $$$ for a complicated system so this is what I was thinking:

180-220 gallon display tank (6x2x2) or (6x2x2.5)

The Stand is 40 inches tall! Which is the tallest stand I have ever owned..which opens me up to ideas of filtration. T

The sump will most likely be a 65 gallon tank I might go bigger it depends (if you think I should let me know). I will of coarse be having the water first go through a filter sock or filter socks and then I was thinking the first chamber with the sock will be beside a pump that pumps water into a two or three drawer system with plenty of holes and filled with pot scrubbies that is elevated over the water level so it trickles down back into the sump. The baffle leading to the second chamber will be filled with pond matrix . The Second chamber will house my heater as well as something but haven't thought of it yet if it was really big I could of had it as a refuge or something but it won't be needed as Im going to try to see what size tank fits beside this sump as that will be a quarantine tank/growout tank. The baffle leading to the third chamber will most likely be more pond matrix. The last chamber will have some model of a pump called lagano pump as its cheaper, more effective as well as less power is used.

Question time:

How does this sump sound so far? Does it sound like it will be very effective?

What should be in the second chamber any ideas on how to throw more filtration steps int he second chamber besides just my heater in there?

What size sock as well as size micron do you recommend?

How many gph would you recommend? I assume it should be 10x so I guess that means if I go with a 180 after head is a counted for should be at least 1800 and the same concept for the 210 gallon just with 2100 gph?

Am I missing anything? I heard of some new things like K1 or something like that...trying to keep the sump simple as for me this is simple.

Thanks A million sorry for the read!!!!

Forget a pot scrubby tower or anything else. Forget dividers or baffles in the sump. Forget another pump pumping water which is just more electricity being used.

Get 4- 7x17 filter socks 100 microns. 2 to use 2 to replace while others are being washed.

Then get your pond matrix and place it a mesh bag or what. Probably 4 liters worth. Some things that you can pull it out and rinse it if needed.

Hang the socks with chain with loops on the end for holding the socks just below the sump top and making changes easy.

Throw the pond matrix in the middle of the sump somewhere.

Have your 2 heaters where you want.

Get a pump of about 2000 gph

Or change the pond matrix for a fluidized bio media reactor setup and buy k1 or what I prefer WaterTek MB3*Moving Bed Media and then buy a large air pump or water pump to move that media and never worry about cleaning it. For this you will need to make a pvc diffuser to push the media around and you will need to make some strainer walls to have in the sump to keep the media under the diffuser so it will boil well. Bio media reactors take a little morw effort and normally more cost.

Lol. Wow didn't know he went back that long ago looking for advice. I think with 3 threads you have got a few ideas.

Lol how did you find the thread? I did have a feeling I wrote a thread like this as Ive been contemplating getting the 180 which apparently is more like a 210 since we found a different spot in the house. The stand is ridiculously tall lol guess I could make shelves to hold stuff then just added filtration.

Before I go back to the old thread to read, would what you summed up DIDY, allow me to not need a canister for the long run? I've used pond matrix before I think water scims on top of the matrix and not through it to be more effective. Any ideas on how to force water to actually go through the matrix? Thats why I figured baffles would do the trick. Also more matrix the better? My 72 gallon tank had a almost 5 gallons of pond matrix in it lol should I do the same or will it really not have added effect?

Just looked at the old thread now:

- Most likely I will be running the laguano 2400 or 2900 as the the stand =the height of the tank is going to be about nearly 6 foot which pump you think would be best?

-What do you think are some good uv sterilizers, never had one freshwater. Something easy to instal as well as very effective.?

-The stand doesn't have a wooden floor board just empty, should I put some type of carpet in it? Or will it some reason cause unbalance of the sump tank?
