Im asking this question out of simple curiosity. How does your Aro act when you work around him, tank cleaning, for example? (1st year or when you first get it, it's going to be skittish. I mean on fish you've had for at least 4 mos.

1. does it run and hide in fear and act docile?

2. does it come and help, swimming around in and out of the hoses
being a royal pain always in the way? My late Gu Kaan I had to hold out of the way with one hand so I could get my work sone, he supervised everything.

3..Has anyone's Aro shown aggression towards them (human), say are you afraid to put bare hands in the tank because you're gonna get nailed?
Does it attack or bite?

4. Does it constantly freak and try to jump out any second it can?
(one time I opened the tank, cleaning, and my Aro jumped straight up and ( had my face foreward looking down) and smacked into my forehead it was funny.)

This should be fun, I listed 1-4 to give you ideas, so write freely, no need to pick a number unless you prefer to.

MY experience: After the adjustment period, I gave mine all 6 mos, even my current Aro (who is by far the wildest lil monster) and once they start to help me clean the tank, now he's learning that he likes to be touched and belly rubs (1 finger, very gentle) they change their demeanor. That's how Gu Kaan was, as you can see in the vid clip in youtube on my signature.

I'm excited to hear everyones answers, please include any unusual behavior good or bad. Thanks!

Curiousity is killing the cat!

With mine it depends.

The silvers are generally ok, but if I have to put my hands in the tank or catch something, I know I will have 2 weeks of jumping and hiting the cover whenever I approach the tank. They are histerical for that period.
Strangely, even in the histerical period, they know when it is feeding time.

The blacks are less skittish. More retiring, more hidden, but not prone to histerics when they see me and they're out in the open. Never had any histerics.

My silvers are latino gals.:headbang2 ; My Blacks are german blocks of ice:nilly:

I always enjoy watching your video Meiling, what happened to that magnificent Aro?

1 never he will let you touch him but only a little

2 he doesnt really care one way or the other what you are doing his behaviour is always calm the only time he is very active is feeding time he can tell exactly where the food hit the water and will head straight for it which he has an 8' circle to patrol so its pretty neat

3 if he is hungry you do not stick just you fingers in the water or he will bite you HARD!!! I feed him by hand though

4 the only time he freaks and leaps a little is when the albino channel cat or fata$$ pacu bump into him when they are all eating pellets off the surface

1. it usualy just swims aroundlike normal but on a rare ocasion it will swim continualy into the tank wall

2. yep. when i try to pour water in th e tank it will sit right in the spot im about to pour water in and it wont move.

3..not to me but its bit my friend before.

4. no. he hasnt tried to leap but he's only around 4"

My aro doesn't like me cleaning or doing water changes. Sometimes he'll dart around the tank and other times he just sulk in the corner farthest from me.

Well, I got mine in Oct. and just now he's a real pain when I clean, he has to be in the middle of it, that's how GK became so calm. I always try a new place to touch or rub to please the Aro, if I gently let him run through my thumb and fore finger, I squeeze before it turns into a fin, he stops in the bubbles and lets me stabilize him over the bubbles. He doesn't have to swim foreward to breathe if I hold him soft, he swims in place, and he's crazy over it. If I let go, he whips back around and drapes his tail in my way.

1 of mine swims all over, he aint afraid of anything and aint super interested in me either. he jus swims, he dont care lol. the other is a lil shy at times, he dont like hands or nets to much. usually keeps his distance. my leichardti wont let me get near the tank, i've only had it for a few days tho.

what happened to your Jar, ethnics? had the courage to sell it?
