Hi,
I see a lot of people putting driftwood in their tanks for several reasons one being that it lowers the ph. So my question is, how effective is driftwood at lowering ph? Thanks

Depends on the piece of wood, the more tannins it releases the more it will affect the ph

our tap water is 7.2.. theres one piece in the 55g and its at constant 6 within 48 hours of a waterchange... dunno if that helps or not...

i think there are other parts that play into this as well.... if your water doesnt have good buffering capacity then your PH will drop quick if it does you wont really have a problem...

Hi. If you read this thread here that I started, there is some information on driftwood lowering PH, and an alternative way to use driftwood to lower Ph. Eventually the tannins will have all soaked out, though it can take awhile, and you would have to add new or replace the old driftwood. I lowered my Kh and Ph accidently by having water put in my tank that wood had been soaking in. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152320
