Just curious as to how far some of you have gone (distance, expenses or whatever) to help/keep your fish.

I ask because I ve done some pretty intresting things for my fish and was curious if I am really that nuts lol.

1. Last year I moved out to Tampa over an hour and 1/2 from my mom's. I could not take my large 150gal tank, so I left it with them. It has my most expensive fish and one that I have had for over 4 years. Well one of my kig's burnt themselves on the heater and I made an emergancy rescue after work one day. My parents met me up about 40 minutes out from Orland where they live with the fish and tank which I picked up and took back to Tampa.

2. Just the other day I was visiting my parents and cleaned my tank. Well my filter (which is very expensive) was making noises.. I went to check it out and that thing was retarded nasty so not thinking... I cleaned it. If you can't tell already... that was a really stupid move (as I JUST cleaned my tank). The following day I woke up and tank was clear fish were good, a few hours later the parents woke up tank clear and fish good. I left for work for the day and the left to visit family. I get off work drive home to Tampa and 5 minutes after I get in the house my mom calls me... "your tank is cloudy".... my thoughts are "@#$@%#*&^*&()(**&^%&%". Put ammonia neutralizer in it and I am on my way. I grabbed 2 buckets....filled with water from a tank at my house.... a battery airater and off I go to east Orlando at 7pm (when I have work at 7:30 am 1hr and 20mn away the next day - I work next to oralndo). I get there just before 9pm net the fish (yeah that water was really cloudy and spiked...I got there in time for the fish though) get 17 fish between 2 buckets. Pop on 1 working air pump and off I go back home to Tampa which I arrive sometime after 11pm. All fish alive. My bf has the only spare tank ready to go with a filter from another running tank and water from it, pop them in that tank and so far so good. After all was done it was about 1 am.

so What have you done?

I luckily havent had to do any crazy stuff to save my fish.... YET.

I keep imaging what a major earthquake would do and i would have to walk through broken glass to scoop up my fish and put them in the bathtub.

But so far so good for me.

I guess I would say its fairly insane that my fish live and eat much better than I do. I go to the grocery store with them and the cat in mind first, then Ill take care of myself. I have not had to do anything like the OP has, but Ive had a 100 gallon break on me and Id say that fact that I treat these fish like kids is one. Most people dont understand it, some here still dont, but thats how it is, they need their variety of food, as understocked as I can go, and with lotta h20 changes.

I have driven 7 hours to save a Rhomasaur. longest distances for fish ever.

outside of the last post I feel slightly insane lol
I just figured I invested so much in them (on top of it being round 2) and the tank I didnt want to loose them, or my syno cat cuse I had him for a long time.

spent 4 hours giving CPR to an ST that couldn't breath on his own. constantly holding him up to a powerhead over the course of the night and he pulled through.
not really a distance thing, but i did drive over 20 hours to get this fish..lol

Wow I have done that but it took maybe an hour for me to get the fish back on its own but wasnt sure if it would make it. It was a small datnoid but it did pull through. Glad yours made it.

Yea furthest I drove to pick up fish is more then 6hours and less then 8 hours... It was in Atlanta GA for the ACA I drove from Orlando, not nearly or half as far as you.

Yeah I dont think anyone would ever want to have to go to these types of situations to help fish, but it happens =/
