Hey I was just wondering if anybody could tell me at what rate convicts grow? I have had mine for 3 months now and see almost no difference.

i picked up 18 lil frys....like .5" from a guy of craigslist. all for 5 bucks. they are all in my 10 gallon, i feed hikari gold., they love it.

Mine haven't grown much but they look bulkier. They get much more food then at the petstore haha. I've had two for around 2 months and the other for 2 years.

Convicts grow slowly compared to other cichlids. Mine grew a little in the first couple of months, and when I moved 6 of them from a 45g to a 120g they all (especially the males) like trippled in size in a matter of weeks. They probably got twice as long (from 1.5 to 3 inches) and super bulky. I suggest you do extreme water changes and move stuff around in the tank to just jolt things a little.

They grow fairly fast. When I was breeding them for feeders a few years ago the young would go from .5" to 2" in about a month and a half. I was doing 50% water changes two times a week and feeding them twice a day though, so perhaps thats why.

Ultimately, their growth isn't going to be as phenomenal as the predatory cichlids.

they should be bulking up pretty fast, keep in mind they are not a large growing species
