How fast do red bellys grow with propper nutrition,, I have 3 in an 85 gallon tank? Is this enough room?

that's fair amount of room. They'll grow an inch a month to 6" or so, then it will slow down quickly and progressively. It'll take a long while before they reach 10".

I can't believe you just told JesseD that the size of the tant will limit the size of the fish, just ain't so.
P45 has it right as far as growth rates, most rpbs top out around 10" but a few will get a bit bigger, esp. the ones not raised with competition. THey grow slowly after reaching around six inches. I had one go from 9" to 14" in 3 years then stop growing longer, fatter yes, longer no, it was a lazy fish.
Just1nK4ng, I'm still curious how a 16 year old can have kept piranha for 20 years, care to explain?

Thanx for the info. I was also thinking of giving them blood worms i was told that helps them grow fast. Any one tryed bloods and have some info on them?

How big are they now? Blood worms can mean 2 different animals, salt water worms like bristle or pile worms that get at least 8"s or midge larvae at under an inch. Rbps will eat both if they are the right size to the fish. I like a mixed diet of live gut loaded crickets, mysids, fish, earthworms, and sometimes pellets, mainly live food but that is just me. Earth worms about as long as your piranha are great.

I dont quite know what foot print means explain and ill tell ya. For earth worms do u dig them up and if so is there any cleaning you do for that? Right now i am feeding them pellets but i was told living things will help them grow much faster because of protine and all the vitamines that they contain.....?

I usually bought mine at a bait shop because they are farm raised, if you dig them be sure it is from an area that isn't soaked ith pesticides or herbicides, I never bothered to do more than rinse them off. I know some people don't use live food but I prefer a varied diet. Don't use feeder goldfish as they are often raised in high copper level tanks to prevent fungus and copper can cause liver, kidney, and growth problems in most fish, or even out right poisoning. If you use feeder fish try live anchovies or smelt from bait shops as few parasites transfer well from salt water to fresh.
The foot print of a tank is length x width, I'm guessing that your tank is around 1 1/2' wide x 5' long, which gives a foot print of 7 1/2 square feet.
