Hello
How fast more or less does Java fern grow? I added some on wood month ago and it looks good but hasnt grown .
I have new leaves coming out but plant hasnt expanded on the wood itself.

I hope to cover most of the wood with it.

Can I expect an inch of expansion every month once it "settles" in ?

I know its a slow plant thus not sure of growth rate.

Thanks

Unfortunately, giving a good estimate will be hard to do. The growth will depend on light, Co2 and nutrients in the tank.

My 10g planted, which just has cherry shrimp, grows very slow. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2" per month. My wifes tank, she has to trim the moss every couple weeks because it grows so fast. Probably about 3/4 tp 1" a month.

Okay not bad .If I get 3/4 inch a month I'll be happy . May have to get bit more. No CO2 but water is hard and I change 1/4 of tank water (30 gallon) every week. .

Thanks

Mine have been growing new leaves, and several of those are probably 2-3 inches by now. I've had the tank set up a few months; 48W T5HO light, dry fertilizer and flourish excel. Tank is a 29.

I've never had any luck with java fern, polysperma is still going strong one year since I stopped the planted tank, no fertz nothing.

Depends on conditions and the plant IMO

Your tank is a real planted tank mine is improv type as darters are the main thing.

My bulb is only 14 watts but in theory 60 watts . I am probably going to add more as prefer more wood coverage by the plant faster.

Thanks

I just looked that up and could be wrong but think that plant is found by canals/lakes in area.

If its that will try it .

thanks

You just have one of those spiral compact fluorescent bulbs? I don't think that will be nearly enough light. It may be equivalent to a 60W incandescent, but that's because the incandescent bulbs are incredibly inefficient in comparison.
