I have a Kel and a Mono/Ocell, both around 5". I want to try and start getting them off feeders. I put in freeze dried krill yesterday, and the Mono went after it. I fed it again today. He still not too sure about it, because he spits the pieces out alot, but I believe he has eaten a few too. The Kel shows absolutely no interest. How long generally until the Kel will catch on that this is food? I would think pretty quick, since he sits there and watches the Mono go after it.

Angler only because you are my hommie for real I will say if the Kel does not come around DONT force it. My Kels have not looked at anything other then live! Of course if it is a issue then keep trying but I wouldn't get real enthusiastic about it until they hit 8'' personally and even then I will wait until there 12''. I mean we are talking about the holy grail of Cichla at least for me! There are a few other that have made the conversion so keep trying and they should come along. But I already stated my position on the matter. (feeders) Go get a pair of convict's hell I have three breeding pair. Paul still has your old pair go get them back!

Well, it is good to know that mine isn't the only one who shows no interest. I will continue to feed feeders, and at the same time, continue to give the other pbass krill. You are right about these being the holy grail. I know there are rarer, more desired Cichla out there, but there is something about a full grown Kelberi that makes me remember why I love this hobby so much!

Yeah, the cons don't like Paul. They won't breed for him..lol.

BTW, how big are your Kelberis? Have any updated pics?
