Okay, I'm not planning yet, but Im thinking/daydreaming of getting a turtle or 2, preferable for an outdoor pond dat I have. Now, how good are they for ponds? Anyone have any experience in this?

this will probably be the one I'll be getting http://www.reptilecenta.com.au/reptiles/turtles/short_neck_turtle.html
nice and cheap and a good starting point. I'll planning getting them baby, so yeah, any tis would be great!

I don't know if they are any benifit to a pond but they are cool looking in them.

Just so you know, don't get the turtle if it has any way to get out of the pond. If the turtle can get out, it will leave, and not come back. My uncle has put several turtles in his pond, and they always leave during the night.

So if you get a turtle, make sure it can't get out, otherwise you are just going to be wasting your money.

yeah nice cheap species...should see them on the price list on the US i'd need a loan to get a pair here :D...well at least last time i saw them on the list i would have lol.

well if you try it keep them in the pond or near it with some sort of barrier, be wary of predators and try hard to keep native turtles so if they do get out its not going to trash the environment like the damn red eared sliders are doing here in michigan.

thankfully i've only seen one but i know of a few areas where those little aquatic monsters are found now.

:D i do have three in my tank though so if i find em i keep em :D

Thanks for the tips, yeah these are natives here so decently cheap. Man in Hong Kong, you can get those green turtles (name?) for like 20 HK dollars, which is equivalent to like $4AUD which in US means....dirt cheap! But here they don't sell it so yeh, hard to find.

Ummm, I'm pretty sure when they get to a certain size to fit fish in their mouth they will, but at an 1 inch diameter they won't post much threat to the fish I plan to keep with him.

If it were a bad idea to have turtles in ponds they could get out of, wouldn't all the turtles in all the ponds everywhere switch ponds overnight?
