How hard are retics to care for?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is it eating well? What is the highest your nitrates will get?

if it's skinny, fatten it up on blackworms (mine loves bloodworms too)

will you be housing it with anything else?

whats your filtration like?

Easy, I find them no harder to take care of than lets say a motoro. Any ray that is small, pup size, is of course going to be more sensitive to any change in water quality and will be affected far worse by any sickness or parasite cause they are young.

I have kept three motoros and four retics, and have lost one ray, and that was an 11'' motoro, the 5'' retic in the same tank was fine.

So as long as you keep up good water quality you should be fine.

Havnt gotten it yet but Im going to get it from a private seller. I was orginally looking at motoros but Ill take pretty much anything now.

right now I have a 135 with only a 10in silver aro and an 8in thin bar. Weekly chnages keep nitrates <10. I am goin to add 3 pbass and a CK.

How soon will you upgrade, and what is your filtration.

In my experience retics are more sensitive then motoros. I had recently purchased a skinny and beat up motoro when about an hour afters doing my usual water changes I noticed that my retic who was fat and healthy was acting strange. I tested my water and had an ammonia reading of about .5ppm. Confused I had ammonia cause I had never had a problem before I decided to test my tap and sure enough it was coming out of the tap at about 1.5ppm. After a long 5 day struggle my retic slowly died all the while the motoro continued on its way to recovery and never showed signs of stress.

While my experience is in no way scientific and it all could have been coincedence I still believe that are a more sensitive ray. Both rays were about 5-6" around BTW....
