I have seen a group of 6 for sale at a very reasonable price, and and thinking about trying to breed them. I just wondering how hard they are to breed (I'm quite a noob to breeding, only livebearers before really). I think it would be interesting to see fry care behaviour first hand, not just some 3 min video on youtube.

ive breed quite a few cichlids but no thorichthys sp.....but i do have a pair of tho.meeki and tho.sacnab they just havent breed YET:)
i also i have 3 tho.ellioti did have 5 but 2 got killed due to aggression from each other.....so i would say they arnt the easyest due to aggression. all mine are split up-but tommorrow iam getting another 2-3 to try and get a pair also aload of swordtails for dithers.
so just watch the aggression and it should be easy from that.
what size are they too?
good luck with them

Thanks, they were about 2" at the shop, but this was about a month ago (had coursework to do, so spent much of my time on that).
However I was too late, they have all been sold.

Though all is not bad, my parents recently agreed to let me have another tank (absolute deal of century for me, I know others have done better but I havnt seen a bargin like this before - 90USG, huge trickle filter, lights, heater, oak cabinet, hood etc. complete set up for £70 (140USD). So now I will be breeding something in that tank (I'm thinking texas atm). Its much bigger and opens up a whole new range of fish, so I'm quite happy.

nice deal, sorry for the late reply-didnt see the thread and i had CW too. i put my festae in my big tank now so i had a spare tank...i put my sajica pairs, extra male and female and salvini with my tho.sacnab pair. there all pairing off and flaring to each other.
something weird happened while i was catching the salvini i found another tho.ellioti in the tank? must of been hiding or stuck lol

as for the 90 gallon texas's would be cool, i would go for the blue/green texas's
