They are on sale at my LFS and I was thinking about getting one, but not until I do some more research.

I have a del bichir in the tank and a few gourami. Nothing aggressive.

Could it eat tilapia and shrimp pellets?

Any info would be great, now off to google to look up more stuff on them!

frozen bloodworms would be a better bet for food. depending on the tank-size they should be okay. spiney eels are sensitive to water quality, and need a good spot to hide in. generally you want to avoid course gravel. they are one of the easier spiney to care for and will often times be readily converted to a quality flake food as well as frozen foods. shrimp pellets sometimes are taken.. but aren't very nutritious.

Hm. Well my freezer doesnt work and the blood worms go bad if I have them :(
I have a 55gal right now, planning on an upgrade sometime soon.. and I do weekly water changes to keep it clean and healthy for my bichir.
So it could possibly eat flakes.. it wouldnt eat tilapia at all?

I think I might hold off until I feel that I can provide the best food for it. They are so neat, but I wouldnt want it to be unhappy on flakes..

They also have a ton of fresh water moray eels? sounds like an oxymoron to me but is that even possible?

It's possible.. but unlikely.. usually "freshwater morays" are G. Tiles which are actually brackish/marine.

Tilapia might work but you'de have to mince it up very fine. otherwise another option might be live blackworms for you. since spineys can all be different on their acceptance of foods. It's best to have a variety on hand when you initially get them. simply asking the LFS to offer the tank of eels flakes and seeing if any actually eat them might be your best bet in avoiding issues.

Thats what I was thinking, because a completely fresh water moray just doesnt sound right lol Poor guys they were kept in straight fresh with some tetras when I saw them today..

I wonder if the fish shop has live black worms, do I just put them all in or what? I have never heard of them before, and that is a good idea on having the store feed them so I can see who will eat the flakes.. :)

Thank you so much for the help, I always like to look up and do research before I bring anything new home, just to make sure I am doing everything right!
