How high shud my water level be in this thing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes. The reservoir is a sump, they mean basically the same thing. . The sump in combination of the filter material and pump makes it a wet/dry or trickle filter.

I usually keep the water level about 1" above the bio-media depending on the size of the sump. If you fill it to the top it kind of defeats the purpose of a wet/dry (gas exchange etc.). You also risk flooding the place in a power outage because there will be some excess over flow even when the pump stops.

hey rallysman thanks alot for replying i love u man!! ( not in a g@y way  )
i understand what ur saying...
thats why i dont fill it up coz i know then the trickle-thing is not on effect anymore. And also u r ryt even the pump is dead it will still take some water in ( i know that now becasue of the flooding incident i just had )

so what do u think? i fill it almost half.. u think thats ok?

its difficult to see in the picture, but I think you ether have to many bio balls or you have a sump thats too small. what is the size of the tank you are filtering? as far as I understand, and I am willing to be corrected, you need 1 gallon of bio balls to filter 30 gallons of water. Your sump should be 1/3 the size of your tank, this is to allow for sufficiant water capacity for your tank. Anyone else have an opionion on this?

I have a 55 on my 300 and it works great for water containment. I usually keep the water level about 2" above the pumps. IIRC it's 2.2 gallons of bioballs for every 100g of water, but I usually run more than that.

I'm curious too, what size is the sump and what size is the tank?

well its not to be said its too small, but i would cut back on the balls. Keep the water level at around 3-4" and the bioballs should sit an inch below water level. If you can make a 55 work for a 300, I'm sure you can get a 25 work for a 210. Personally I would get a bigger tank for a sump, the bigger the sump the larger the water capacity in the whole.

The ultimate test is to pull the plug on the pump and test water:) If water tests well and the sump doesn't overflow you're in good shape:)
