Boston
Were in a bit of a heat wave in boston, and Im a little worried about the temperature of my tank, which is currently at 90 degrees. I dont have air conditioning in the room where the tank is and its really not an option either due to the design of the house. It doesnt look like it will cool down to the mid eighties for another week. Just curious at what point is high temperature dangerous to the fish. I have about a dozen fish, yellow labs, blue ahlis, and hap thickskins.

you can put a fan in the room to blow air at the tank. you can also do a 25 -30% water change & add cold water every 2 days until the temps. drop. add some air stone to help oxygenate the tank;lack of oxygen (which is a result of warm water) is what often kills a fish before they overheat.

I got some advice to freeze 20 oz bottles 3/4 full of water and drop them in the tank, helped a lot when my AC went down.

Water temp over 30 centigrade is not good. Turn you thermometer down to ensure you keep a temp at around 25-27C. You might need to turn the thermometer down to around 22-24C to attain this. Good advice to do water changes as this will introduce cooler water.
Good luck and I hope all goes well. :naughty: :woot: :clap :headbang2

Over here there's no use for heaters come summer. All heaters get unplugged.
For overheated tanks we do what ewurm suggests and plop a few bottles of frozen water into the tank. Just enough to get the water to mid-low 80's. No need to shock your fish getting the water back down to the upper 70's since they're more than capable of handling mid-80 summer temps for a few weeks.
Keeping the lid off the aquarium and having a fan blow over the top of the water helps as does added circulation with an airpump. Keeps oxygen levels up despite the higher temps. I've noticed my fish can take heat a lot better than they can take oxygen depletion.

Do all the above also get one of these(EHEIM Air Diffuser for Hose) £5 put it on This allows air from the breather hose to mix with water Replacing Spray Bar with Diffuser : works well and a good back up if your air pump stops working.

My tanks hit 90 on sunday while I was at work:WHOA:
All survived even the hillstream loach.
I setup fans to keep air moving thru the fishropom and got the temp back down.
I think as long as you have good oxygenation and not crowded into the low 90s is survivable for most fish.I know the fish cant live much past 100f it happened to me once all dead:(
