I have a chance to get a great deal on a small zebra moray and im pretty positive im gonna take it. The setup would be a 30L (hes less then 8" long and will be in there alone, I know im gonna need a bigger tank soon, just working with what Ive got) with a 10g sump and a mag 3 powering it. The tank with be FOWLR and like I said just him. Is it live and die important that I have a skimmer at setup or is it something that I can wait a few weeks on and just do water changes?

Very. Just grab a remora backpack skimmer, that would do the trick. Eels produce a lot of waste.

Good luck with your new moray!

Ok thats what I figured. Just to be clear Im going to add a skimmer in the next couple of weeks but just not this weekend. I have the distinct pleasure of having a salt water importer right down the street from me (like I could throw a rock and hit his garage lol) so hes going to hook me up with seeded media and rock so I can get this thing going super fast. STOKED!!!

good luck with the tank man. I am sure with me and Comatose, you wont have any problems that can't be solved with your moray. They are a great choice for a marine tank. Really cool animals.

Yea except for their terrible eyesight. Never feed them hotdogs, because they look exactly like fingers! :D

Just kidding.

It is very important to have it would be like having a dog but no food dish's or a leash every piece of equipment is essential in a successful marine tank environment.

Read some of the other posts in here and on the corals inverts section. I have written a lot on skimmers very recently. Moral of the story...I dont run a filter on my 75g aquarium, have no measurable wastes, feed my fish and corals heavily, and am growing acro's and milli's successfully.
