I'll be setting up a 220 gallon tank for an RTG Arowana soon.
I'v never used UV sterilization on my previous tanks. But given that this will be my first time keeping an Arowana, I want to be sure if its necessary. How many of you have UV sterilizers?

U dnt need it...i have a 220 also I have no algae or anything ...i would suggest it if u keep your lights on all day or the tank is by the window..

there are other benefits of uv like killing off some other harmful bacteria and making water clearer? either way, u dont need it

I have a 250 (1200L) tank with a RTG. I use to use UV on my previous tank but if you keep your nitrates down & have a couple of well maintained XL filters & carbon you can do with out a UV. The water in my tank is crystal 95% of the time. Maybe If I got a UV it would be crystal clear 100% of the time

UV is more like to control algae and keeping the water more clearer..arowana is just like any other fish no real extra care for it..keeping angel fish might be more difficult that keeping arowana :D

UV is not a requirement. Having said that, I use one because my tank is situated across a large bay window. Ive never had algae issues.

I ran one for a year then sametime without, no difference but imo good for a quarintine tank or if you are getting new fish a lot, some are better for parasites some for algae, depends on watts, bulb length, flowrate, proximity of water and bulb etc. If you keep the same constants and have a good tank its certainly not gonna add to anything.

i wouldnt run a tank without a UV its best to be safe than sorry they cut down on parasites no chance of fungus if the fish damages its self

they cost next to nothing to run all you need to do is change the tube every 6-12 months why not use one is a harder ? to answer lots of reasons to use one but no reasons not to use one

UV is not necessary to have but it is beneficial to use
since it kill the parasites and unwanted bacteria and
keeps the algae away from your tank if your tank is in
a spot where direct sunlight is shined on your tank.
overall is optional but i'd rather have one then not.
