I know the people keep claiming its the "remourie effect" but it cant be suction if the airstone is running in that supposedly air tight area anyone know how this is done? ..check out the video and u will understand what im talking about.

I saw that a while ago and I wondered the same thing. It might not be "real" and may just be a seperate tank placed in the lower one. notice how they dont show the top of the upper fish tank, it might be open. I really dont know

I'm no scientist but heres how i think it happened
  • the air is in a closed circulatory system. the pump is the heart. the hose is the vein. and when the air stone releases the air it returns to the top of the tank to start the process over again.
  • an air pump circulates the water from the top of the tank to the bottom
  • the air then floats back to the top of the tank
  • THE TANK MUST BE AIR SEALED. no air in the tank, no air out the tank after the tank is sealed. this means the air pump, hose, and stone must also be air sealed. somehow the pump must be placed so that it draws the air from the top of the tank only.
This is only a theory. I'm am not suggesting you try this but if you do please share the results (good or bad)

sorry for the crappy drawing its the best i can do

Interesting thought.....I also wondered how this works....Im surprised we havent seen this in the states yet.....

IMO -

The top of the upper tank is sealed- perhaps with a valve or pump to suck the air out. Other than that, its just like a water cooler or one of those pet-watering bottles.

If they left the airstone running long enough, the water in the upper tank would be displaced by air. Around 1:11 mark this looks like the case.

This is still possible with a sealed-top tank; just don't run the airstone where the bubbles go into the upper tank. Then use a powerhead or other pump to make sure the water from the upper tank gets into the lower tank to allow for gas exchange. It makes an interesting display- but would have reduced fish carrying capacity because of the loss of surface area.
