The reason I ask is that I have a black shark. Now, for anyone who has ever owned a black, red tail, or rainbow shark you know when they want to chill out they usually find a good corner of the tank and just sit there vertically. My black and devil are both about 13 inches long, the funny thins is, my devil has recentally started to do the same thing, its normal to me when the shark does it but seeing the devil doing it is kinda bizarre, there is nothing wrong with him, he just seems to like to sit there vertically with his head facing down when he is just chilling. Could he have picked that up by watching the black shark doing it?

Mine does that and other then the plecostomus has no tank mates that do it. I have these green bushy plants in it and she gets in the thick of them and faces head down. Its funny because the plants are green and she's orange, not a very good place to hide. Everyone thinks there is something wrong with her but no, just the way she is. But anyway, fish can learn from watching otehr fish. A recent study was done on cichlid aggresion where cichlids could tell what fish to avoid by watching the other fish interact. One method for converting fish to pellets is simply putting them with fish that already do. They learn that pellets are a food source this way. If your RD can see your "shark" is safe being in the vertical position he may figure it is a safe way to hide.

Thats some really interesting information, thanx! Its kinda cool that fish can observe and mimic like that, pretty neat that they are that intelligent!
