How is it possible to NOT have a sub-forum in ancient fish for Amia Calva?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is a stupid idea. A whole section for ONE species? That hardly anyone keeps, regardless of how "awesome " they are. Seriously? If you think the lungfish forum gets little activity, a bowfin forum would hardly get a fraction of that!

Exactly. If anything, a "Holostei" sub-forum could be created to cover gars and bowfin (which comprise the infraclass Holostei), but said naming would confuse the heck out of most hobbyists (although "Gars and Bowfin" sub-forum might work).

A fraction of ten posts in 15 days. You sir are incorrect. I would gladly post one thread every other day in that forum to "blow the lungfish" activity out the door. Really, a small fraction of 10 posts within 15 days? Really?

The Lungfish forum used to be pretty busy and does actually have some spurts when there is a ton of activity, but it has been pretty slow lately, though.

It would be utterly pointless to have a sub-forum dedicated to a single species that generates even less discussion that the Lungfish sub-forum does. A single thread every other day on bowfin would do next to nothing since you'd probably be the only frequent poster, and you would run out of decent topics fairly quickly.

The lungfish forum is there because there are numerous species of lungfish, and while there may not be very many posts, a lot of people keep them. There's no reason to dedicate a sub-forum to one species of fish. Not that many keep bowfin either, they're not readily available. Also, they're native fish. The ancient fish forum is only here because all of the fish in it fail to fall into any other categories.

And please, try not to be so defensive. The fact that you called lungfish "ugly" and used that as a criterion for why their sub-forum should be deleted is pretty flawed reasoning. Isn't being ugly a pretty good characteristic of being a monster fish? And let's be honest, bowfin may not be ugly but they're not exactly what most people would call nice-looking either. Even if they became popular, it doesn't mean they deserve a sub-forum. African tigerfish are very popular, and they're just lumped in with the other characins sub-forum.

I think bowfin could be pretty popular if more people knew about them. They are a very interesting fish, and more than qualify for monster status.

They certainly could, the only problem is that they're not available often and they don't usually get along very well with other fish.

This is true. Unfortunately, they do not have to swallow prey whole. They are equipped to take hold of and twist their body to take a chunk out of whatever they decide is food.

If you did that there may be more posts about you than Amia ! If that's the case should we make a sub-forum for you?

And that is coming from someone who has caught, kept, and posted about Amia calva. You can just run a forum search for bowfin/Amia and it's basically the same thing. Having a link from the forums is pretty much the same, but crowds the screen that much more.
