I set up a 5.5 gal quarintine tank. It has gravel, water, and a filter from a established tank. The only thing new is decor and heater. How long should I wait before treating my fish in it.
So I know to stabilize the temp should I give the fish a chance to get use to the tank before adding meds and should I wait a day or two before adding the fish.
Nope...add the fish immediately or the BB will die without fish waste. If the tank is for treating illness or injury, there shouldn't be decor, substrate, or lights. If it is a fish that likes to hide, throw in a piece for it to hide in or behind, but thats it.
not really, i usually just toss in few short lengths of PVC tube so the fish can hide.
dont use anything other than that just a heater and a sponge filter
unless you have your QT tank on display, there is no need for lights, rocks, sand, plants or anything like that.
giving the fish a place to hide will help with stress..
lights will allow you to see the fish which means you will be able to keep an eye on them.. which means you will be able to tell if they are healing/showing signs of sickness/getting better
keeping "extra" media in a healthy tank is a good idea so you can pull it out and use it in the qtank as needed... leaving the qtank up and running with no fish in it starves the BB and basicly gives you uncycled tank...
