How Long Before Canister Filter Change

This is probably been beaten like a dead horse, But what the Heck.
How long do you go between service schedules, and what exactly do you do. Of Course the regular pad cleaning, but what else? I am about to add a FX5 to my 100 Gallon, which is overkill as I already have a HOB Emp 400, and a Fluval 403, but the HOB has to go, so once the FX5 has some bio in it, goodbye to the HOB. Any Tips would be great.

you probablly wont have a definate answer. it all depends on amount of fish, feeding habits, and all that mess. i change my canister filter once a month

That is a great start, i have a medium load of fish, and changing my feeding habits to less. Still getting used to it. Great Avatar by the way.

If it is a sponge then I use it until it falls apart which is a couple years. It it is felt/cellulose/cotton then I rinse until it falls apart, a couple weeks or months depending on the material.
