Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone knew how long it normally was between spawnings for small egg layers like Rosy Barbs? The reason I ask is that we have 4 Red Glass Rosy Barbs in our 30 gal and we'd noticed one female looking particularly fat but had thought her too young to reproduce and figured shed just eaten a lot that day. She slimmed down shortly and we thought nothing of it... Untill we were cleaning the tank and realized we were sucking up teeny tiny fry! We were surprised that they'd bred at all since we had no real spawning bed going and a male platy prowls the tank too. We can't really save any of the fry cuz they're tiny and hiding in the gravel and the tank now has 8 fish again, so we were wondering how long it would probably be before our females were egg-laiden again so we can put them in the spawning tank we've now set up at the right time?

Lol she eats like the queen bee already. Soon as someone comes near the tank she zips up to look for eats. Thanks for the info :).

yea jst feed her alot & 3 weeks u should have some eggs good luck

Hell 3 weaks yall say BS do a 75 % water change and It might be 3, Three DAYS. But It depends on your fish and on you feeding them well.

And if ya do that big of a water change I suggest ya put the water in a five gal bucket and make sure the water temp is the same befor you add it to the tank and add your D chlorine to the bucket and add a little extra I use Prime its good **** and wont hurt the fish. and you can use up to 5 times the needed amount in case of an emergency.

Hehe this is old news, we spawned the barbs a while ago and their fry are already on their way to maturity :). That said, 3 weeks seemed to be a fairly accurate estimate.

all depends on the pair and what your feeding them. a good quality food will help the femail produce the eggs alot faster. so i would say 3 weeks being the closest estimate, but it could be any where from 1 week to 6 weeks befor you see anymore eggs

We waited a week and a half after noticing the fry in the main tank and then moved our two ladies to their own 20g. We fed them brine almost exclusively until they were all nice and plump, threw in the males for 2 days once they looked ready and bingo hhe. When the fry are more grown up I will try and put some for sale here if the lfs doesnt take them all. They are really nice compared to every other specimen of the same species we've seen anywhere else and just nice fish in general.
