how long before motoros out grow a 6x3?

i got a 280 (6'3'2't) with a 15" niger cat and a 5" irwini cat. its pretty empty. theres a 6" pair availible to me. how long would i get out of them before i give them to the zoo?
 
if the end result is to just give them to a zoo...then IMHO you shouldnt get the rays.
 
I would say a male would be ok for life

You might want to consider some marbles or even hystrix. You could possibly fit a trio of those for life unless you get a large female marble

You're good for several years and possibly a lifetime for the rays depending on the size the female gets. I have a 4 year old pair in a 5' x 3' 240 gallon and they are happily breeding! Male 11" and female 14".
 
I agree the rays will be good for a long time but just a caution with the cats. I used to keep a 33" niger cat with 3 motoros without a problem but when I added a second niger the rays began attacking its fins.
 
My tank is the same size (mine is a little taller) and has 100 gaL. Sumpl tank. My marble motoro (smaller than reg motoro) female is about 1.5 yrs old and I feel she needs a bigger tank already. She only shares with a male pearl and he is nearly 2ft from nose to tail (female roughly the same) disc is 15-18 inch and she is still growing fast.

I have daily drip for 30gals.

Buying a fish that cannot be housed for life with the exit route of giving to a zoo is so very wrong and should not be an option.
