how long before my synodontis petricola group becomes less shy?

how big do these guys need to be before they become more outgoing and actually actively move around the tank?

Currently they are 1-1.5", I got a group of 10. only other fish in the tank is a GT (about 4")

They should get bolder with age and size but AFAIU this is not only a matter of age and size but also tank set-up - cover type and availability, lighting, perhaps plants, dither fish, etc.

Lack of stress is needless to mention... perhaps at a minimum as judged by excellent appetite and no bullying by tank mates.

If it was me, I'd pose the question on Planet Catfish - for every syno keeper here there are 100-1000 there.
