How long before these become food?

I have 2 x 4-5" rainbow cichlids that seem to follow my quickly growing congicus and he seems to love them too. they hang around him all day and when he lays on the bottom they sit about 5 or 6 inches above him. they seem to make him really active dancing like in the vid but i can't help but think that when he gets to 2 foot or more he's just gonna eat them. anyone else seen anything like this?
