Going to be getting a 90 gallon maybe larger and i was curious as to how long i can honestly get away with having a dovii in that sized tank.

I had a 12 inch jag in a 75 and he was more than happy, so i figure a 13'' dovii should be fine in a 90 gallon.

So how long does it usually take a dovii to hit 13''?

It will generally take a year to get a dovii around a foot and yeah he would be just fine up to 12-14 in a 90 or larger as a single specimen. If u get a pair then maybe upgrade around 10-12" the 90 should be 18" or so wide which by the time it's 12" the tank would look more like a holding tank lol

Alright im sold, i will be putting a dovii in my tank once it comes and im done cycling.

Off topic but which breeder has the best dovii juvies going around right now?

I really want the longer bodied blue dovii.
Are dovii fairly hardy fish? Meaning if water parameters are good they usual grow up with out desiese? i.e. bloat

I would say at least a year before it reached 12 inches..

ya tangledupincichlids.com has some, but i know there are a few breeders on here who have some gorgeous dovii fry that i would love to get my hands on.

A 13" dovii is too big for a 90 gallon. Just because it can fit doesn't mean you do it, Dovii are piscivores and are very strong swimmers. Therefore they need bigger tanks. Dovii get bigger than 13" too, why you through that number out I don't know. If you want to get a 300 gallon tank eventually then go ahead they're a great fish, but if you plan to keep it in a 90 for life you should re-think your fish keeping practices.... That's just what it sounds like.

I had my Dovii in my 90 after my big tank leaked, it was way too small for him. (He was about 13")

I understand tank requirements for a full grown dovii, i will upgrade as need be, as for the 13'' remark, i want to know how long it will take for a male dovii to reach that size. I know they dont stop growing at 13'' but im not going to go out and have 4 juvie dovii swimming around in a 300 gallon tank.

My 13'' jag had no problem living in a 75gallon so im not sure how a 13'' dovii is to big for a 90 gallon.

I understand that they are more of a free swimmer, but they are more of a cave dwelling ambush predatory as opposed to a umbee who is completely open water predatory. So i seem to be leaning toward thinking a 13'' would be fine in a 90 gallon
