Hi guys just as the title says I want to get a gar but how long will it be before it will out grow my 5x2x2? I do have a bigger tank but I would like to grow it out in the smaller tank first.
how long can i keep a florida or spotted gar in a 5x2x2?

It will b awhile mine were in a 4x1.5 for a year b4 I traded them
a 5x2 will last year's. it will hit 14-18" first year then grow extremely slow from then on. could be 6 years before it hits 22"
Ok thanks.so they can reach up to 18inch in the first year?so to me then that mean I can keep them on the 5x2x2 for 1 year only as I don't like to keep fish cramped I wouldn't want them to get past 18inch in that's tank.it's good to know tho. I do have a bigger and wider tank I will move it into at 18inch
ok well if you have a bigger tank you may as well used it but a 14-18" gar in 2ft width is still fine
