How long can i keep a pair in 4x2x2 tank?

How long can i keep a pair of bds in a 4x2x2 tank?
I'll get betting the pair soon. planning to grow thut in 4x2x2 tank.
at what size will it be safe to transfer them to a big pond? also when in pond how do you make sure they are healthy and getting their share of food?
my ponds inhabitants are adult asian arowanas. i Usually just throw in shrimps or sardines.

Also how often do they change their sting?
Planning to trim the sting regularly.
 
I'd give a single BD pup 6 months max so maybe 3 months since they grow pretty fast. Also unless you are handling them every day and NEED to trim stingers I wouldn't based on the amount of unnecessary stress you would be causing.
 
thanks! :) I'm planning to move them into my pond when they grow bigger, problem is i need to go into the pond occassionally to clean the pond since it has buttom drain and there are leaves that clog up my buttom drains. so I'm thinking i'll try to trim their stingers for my own safety when i have to get into the pond to unclog the buttom drains.
 
You shouldnt need to trim the stingers ....if there is only 2 you should be fine to get in there with them just watch where u step.... i wouldnt keep them in a 4x2 longer then a few months mostly due to water quality in such a small tank
 
thanks! :) can they be put in same tank as clown loaches?
i have a 8x2x2.5 feet tank which hpuses my clown loaches.
Loaches are about 7-8 inchers.
 
I had some clowns with my pup and they kept nipping Rays tails.

Could try it and if not put the clowns in the 4ft tank?
